After a killer performance to headline the re-opening of the Brighton Music Hall (formerly Harper's Ferry), Nate Wilson Group returns on Friday May 13th, bringing with them their sound that Christopher Blagg of the Boston Herald describes as "crackl(ing) with Led Zep-like ferocity."

Nate Wilson's first true effort as a bandleader represents a new point of arrival and re-invention for the New Hampshire based singer-songwriter/keyboardist. Gathering much of their inspiration from the riff-heavy psychedelic hard-rock of the 60's and 70's, the group has drawn comparisons to 1st generation luminaries Led Zeppelin and Cream, as well as neo-classic and stoner rock contemporaries Wolfmother, The Black Keys, Dead Meadow, and The Raconteurs.

Storm Stories!
1991: An Island Remembers

Important Note: This event has passed. For upcoming events and activities go to our Boston Events Calendar.

Nantucket Island, MA (May 3, 2011) - The Egan Maritime Institute announces "Storm Stories! 1991: An Island Remembers," an exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversaries of Hurricane Bob and The No-Name Storm, at the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum from May 27 – October 10, 2011. A heart wrenching exhibition, “Storm Stories!” revisits a time of extreme devastation on Nantucket Island by recalling the photographs and stories of those who lived and worked on the island at that time.

A two-month period on Nantucket Island, the exhibit showcases the havoc wreaked by both Hurricane Bob and The No-Name Storm as presented through the eyes of those who experienced it first hand. Hurricane Bob attacked in mid-August, tearing over 2,000 trees from their ancient roots, eliminating the entire island of power, and destroying all forms of vegetation with its heavy salty residue. Then, as the island began to catch it’s breath, on Halloween the No-Name Storm, or the “Perfect Storm,” as many know it, showed its strength by battering the Nantucket Coast to little more than rubble. The storm flooded the island, shattered homes, beached and sunk over 60 boats, swept away the North Wharf and town pier, and crumbled chunks of Nantucket’s shorelines.

The Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum shares the fascinating stories of yesterday’s maritime heroes through permanent and changing interpretive exhibits and special events. The Museum houses a collection of over 5,000 objects, including surfboats, beach carts, vintage photographs and more, a silver medal awarded to Marcus W. Dunham for his role in several rescues during the Great Gale of 1879; the incorporation of oral histories into their “Madaket Millie” retrospective; an interactive shipwreck map; and a whimsical Newfoundland dog chair created by ‘Sconset’ artist, Clara Urbahn.

The Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum is located at 158 Polpis Road, just 3.5 miles from Nantucket Town. The museum exhibition opens Friday, May 27 and runs through Monday, October 10, 2011. Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily.

Admission: $5 adults, $3 children ages 5 – 18, free for children under 5, includes admission to the museum and the historic Coffin School, located at 4 Winter Street.

Delta Generators @ Johnny D's

August 26, 2011, 9:45 PM
Johnny D's Uptown
17 Holland Street
Somerville, MA 02144

As their name implies, The Delta Generators combine the urgency and soulfulness of delta blues with the power and energy of early rock 'n' roll.

While, in the broader sense, they could be classified as a blues band, there is room on that big blue canvas for brush strokes of Memphis soul, Louisiana funk, and classic rock 'n' roll.

The combination of clever songwriting and inspired performances on their new CD "Devil in the Rhythm" shows why critics and audiences are calling them the best new blues band in New England.

Boston Events: C.S. Lewis' THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS

THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS, the provocative and wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel about spiritual warfare from a demon’s point of view, will be presented for three performances only at the Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College, 219 Tremont Street in Boston, on Friday, December 2 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 3 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The Boston engagement is part of the national tour that kicked off after THE SCREWTAPE LETTER’S hit nine month run at the Westside Theatre in New York where it played 309 performances! Prior to that, THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS was a sold out hit in Chicago and Washington D. C.

THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS creates a topsy turvy morally inverted universe set in an eerily stylish office in hell, where God is called the “Enemy” and the devil is referred to as “Our Father below.”

The play follows His Abysmal Sublimity Screwtape, Satan’s top psychiatrist, played by award winning actor Max McLean, and his creature-demon secretary Toadpipe, as they train an apprentice demon, Wormwood, on the fine art of seducing an unsuspecting human “patient” down the “soft, gentle path to hell.”
