A landmark in the North End and long a family favorite, the unassuming exterior of this small bakery cafe belies the luxurious interior – interior of the pastry and gelato display cases, that is. Those who know and seriously care about fabulous pastry (i.e., my husband) think that Modern Pastry is the equal of bakeries in Europe. This is the place to go to indulge. Skip the thousand words explaining why and take a look at
the pictures, which show only a sampling of Modern Pastry’s fresh-baked, scrumptious wares.
Assume a line, for good reason. There is no public restroom, and whole milk only is available for your delicious coffee (but they do serve decaf). Prices are reasonable.
