We had lunch today with friends from Florida, originally from the Boston area, who were enjoying a return to the city of their youth. They wanted a real downtown Boston experience in comfortable quarters without having to sell the farm. They chose the Inn at St. Botolph in the Back Bay and are very happy with it.

When asked what they liked about it, they started out with the “great location” in the historic and charming Back Bay, in walking distance of good shopping, restaurants, and Boston sights. They seemed especially tickled to have a 7-11 right across the street. They were also delighted by the proximity to public transportation, which is allowing them to get all over without a car.

They said that the rooms are nicely furnished in a somewhat modern style. Their own first-floor, corner studio apartment is a quiet, spacious room with a four-poster bed. The Wi-Fi in their room is not perfect, but there is a Mac computer and printer available to residents. The breakfast room serves a cold breakfast, and there is a small fitness room. Laundry facilities are available, and the inn has elevators. They found the hotel on bookings.com, and thought perhaps the rate was slightly better than if they had booked directly with the inn.

I was glad to learn about the Inn at St. Botolph and feel that I will be recommending it to out-of-town visitors.
